Get Over It 02:47
Just don’t know what to say The way all treat each other today Makes me sad, Makes me mad Feel helpless its gotten so bad What can we do? I know it’s nothing new WORDT PARTS OF US, WE'RE SHOWING THEM OLD WOUNDS, WE ALL REOPEN THEM ONE DAY THE BAR, WE LOWERED IT WHEN WILL WE ALL GET OVER IT? Far from United States The only thing we share is some kind of hate Of how they live, how they think Or how they love it all just stinks Are we all so far gone We’ll never get along?

First thing in the morning, I stub my toe I check my bank account, funds are getting low I make a pot of coffee, I burn my fucking tongue It’s 9 o’clock & I’m already fucking done I'M NOT SEEKING BUT I'M ALWAYS MEETING TROUBLE AT EVERY TURN I DON'T MEAN TO BUT I ALWAYS SEEM TO STRUGGLE WITH THE UNIVERSE Leave the house, didn’t dress for the weather Didn’t text when I got home, so I think that I upset her I’m treading water, haven’t made it to the train It’s still before noon & I’m hurtin’ in my brain I’m over it, got nothing to show for it

Goodbye to who left you high & dry Its time to care for you So long to those who done you wrong Make room for something new Greetings to what tomorrow brings Get out of your comfort zone Hello to what you’ve never known Its time for you to grow BABY LET ME TELL YOU DON'T LET IT OVERWHELM YOU LEAVE IT ALL BEHIND YOU YOU'VE GOT IT ALL INSIDE YOU Seek help, be good to yourself Something we all deserve Shits rough & you want to be tough Cool calm and reserved Life goes fast, leave it in the past Stick with what brings you joy Don’t hold on to what’s already gone Cause all that you’ll do is annoy Its complicated Not so painless Theres no back door You get what you pay for Put the work in Thats how you win

Tell me something, help me understand Just 'cause others can, it don't mean you cant Those people up there, they're not your enemy You say "It's not fair", I say "It ain't that easy" CAN'T MAKE EVERYONE LIKE YOU WHY ARE YOU OUT FOR BLOOD? I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO TELL YOU WON'T DRAG YOU THROUGH THE MUD YOU'RE PLAYING GAMES TO IMPRESS THE PLAYGROUND THEN YOU KICK 'EM WHEN THEY'RE DOWN What's the play here? What do you have in mind? Sounds like you can't share & "Whats there's should be mine" It gets you nowhere, tearing others down You're still standing here, down on the ground

Yeah it sucks, giving up Try not to make a fuss You better smarten up Learn when to say enough You’re burning out & you know Put on a smile, put on a show THE THINGS YOU'D RATHER LEFT UNSAID THEY'RE ECHOING INSIDE YOUR HEAD THE EMPTINESS YOU SEEK TO FILL IT TAKES THE WORK, NOT JUST THE WILL YESTERDAY'S GONE, SO NOW'S THE TIME YOU'VE GOT YOURS & I'VE GOT MINE MOST THINGS ARE OUT OF YOUR CONTROL DON'T LET UNCERTAINTY TAKE HOLD Do you really want to know? Cause know that you’ll never know What’s on the other side if you’ve got too much pride You wanna know? Then let it go What’s the point? Yeah so what’s it all mean? If you’re running out, running out Running out of steam

Be Decent 02:16
If non-belief is a luxury But belief is lunacy Where does that leave me? BE DECENT IT'S NOT A PROPHECY BE DECENT IF NOT FOR YOU BUT FOR ME See I'm not trying to cause any trouble Self-hatred keeps me humble Every day another stumble

about

With apologies to Burt Bacharach and Hal David, what the world needs now is not love, sweet love. Love would be nice, but it’s too tall an order for the hateful, the indoctrinated, the radicalized. So let’s start with something simpler: good old-fashioned decency. We’re talking tolerance, grace, and kindness—toward others as well as ourselves. That’s the message driving Having a Laugh, the self-produced debut EP by Be Decent, a new Brooklyn trio that blends ska and reggae with soul, punk, and power-pop.

Be Decent is the brainchild of singer/guitarist Jimmy Doyle, formerly of such celebrated ska bands as The Fad and The Forthrights; bassist Kenneth Partridge, author of the 2021 book Hell of a Hat: The Rise of ’90s Ska and Swing; and drummer Geoff Bickford, whose career in ska dates all the way back to the popular ’90s-era Connecticut group Jimmie Scooter. Together, they write songs about unity, mental health, and the struggles of everyday life.

Having a Laugh features keyboard and trombone from Seán MacCába (Arrogant Sons of Bitches, Bomb the Music Industry!, Rocky Sullivan, PsyD) and saxophone from Matt Mason (The Pietasters, Bad Manners, The Fad). The collection comprises six originals and a cover of The Cranberries’ 1996 alt-rock classic “Salvation.” This music is raw, impassioned, heartfelt, and—dare we say—pretty decent.
